ART ROOM OF THE FACULTY OF ARTS OF ZARAGOZA (16 December 2002 to 10 January 2003)

In this exhibition I showed a series of ink drawings on musical programmes done during musical concerts, as well as water paintings created from those drawings after their digital treatment and printing. In the catalog and invitation card published by the Faculty of Arts was included a text by the reputed musical critic Joaquín Aranda, together with the drawing reproduced below:

Painting music seems to be the objective (or maybe just the dream) behind these pictures by Santiago Ríos. And if we accept that music cannot be painted, why should one attempt to? Simply because the music and the painting are there, looking or listening to each other, reverberating in the eyes and heart of the artist. Failure is inevitable but, what conceivable success can compare to such glorious failure? Joaquín Aranda (translated into English by Enrique Lafuente)
